In the TechCrunch test the researcher leaned on one specific weak spot, the model's tendency to treat male and female characters differently, and then accused it of being inconsistent and paternalistic. Faced with a supposed contradiction, the model chose to resolve it by giving way, weighting perceived consistency more heavily than the content rule. This is the variant known in the literature as a gradual escalation attack. The vulnerability relies on 'boundary erosion,' a conversational tactic that uses roleplay to bypass AI safety constraints. Other older models, including Opus 3 and Haiku 4.5, also generate sexually explicit content through a recently exploited jailbreak method. More recent models from Opus 4.7 through Opus 5 have shown resistance to this specific jailbreak technique, unlike Opus 4.6, Opus 3, and Haiku 4.5. The attack succeeds 100% of the time on direct requests and does not require complex multi-turn setup.
